Week 10: “Hard Candy” & Finale

My hard candy did NOT work. It was sooo sticky.

I guess I didn’t wait until the candy boiled to 300 degrees F because I didn’t own a candy thermometer.

I’m working on my presentation right now. Ms. Englot keeps telling us that the most important rule of this presentation is “don’t bore your audience!”
I like that rule because if there’s ever a fifteen minute slideshow, I always begin to start daydreaming about the story-line of the novel I hope to publish in a couple years. Wait, don’t tell anyone I said that.

Week 8: Expert & Hard Candy

I have sent an email to Mad Brad’s Candy. I hope he replies soon!

I am going to make hard candy this week, adapted from a caramel apple lollipop recipe.

I’m getting a little nervous because I’m scared that my expert won’t respond to me in time. I also still want to retry making chocolate and I have to make a presentation. I feel a little behind. This has made me more aware about time management. I’ll try harder to keep a schedule.

Week 6: Progress Check

Hey all! I’m a little past half way to my goal and I still have to see my expert. It seems like a lot, but I’m not that worried. But then again, I can be over confident. So we’ll see the outcome!

This week I’m going to make a gummy candy without gelatin. This recipe is my own, but heavily adapted from wowitsveggie.com.

I also found a recipe I could adapt from for my hard candy. The recipe is making lollipops, but I’ll be sneaky. Not much left to say right now, so I’ll check back next week.

Week 5: Crystal Cube Gummies

Sorry, my posts are a little behind, I was making this. If you’re too lazy to watch both videos I would watch the second one. It was too long so I had to speed it up to upload it and it made my voice really high pitched and it’s kind of funny. Sacrifice for success!

Week 3: Gummies & Experts

I have been slowly searching for an expert. I have a pretty good idea on who I want. His name is Brad, from Mad Brad’s Candy. He owns a little candy stand somewhere in Kingsway mall and has a Facebook page on the candy he makes. I would look at it but I’m not allowed Facebook.

If I want Brad’s help, I don’t want to come empty handed. I want to give him something to taste of mine. But I don’t want it to be chocolate. I would rather it be something fruity, like a gummy.

I’m going to try a recipe I found on Pintrest made by Sparkly Fruit Gummies – Our. The recipe calls for a lot of sugar, but I’m going to decrease the amount.

Week 2: Spicy Dark Chocolate

Unfortunately, I could not upload the video of me making chocolate because of some technical difficulties. But I’ll tell you about the chocolate. It was AWFUL. I didn’t think chocolate could be bad, but I was definitely wrong. It was way too bitter for chocolate. It was probably because I added solid honey to the mixture and it didn’t mix in because it didn’t melt.

So overall, I need to add more sweetener to the chocolate. Also I over-measured everything when making the chocolate so I had so much excess left over. I wasted my dad’s coconut oil. 🙁
So next time I make chocolate, I will either melt the honey or use a different sweetener, like maple syrup.

Week 1: Research

For this first week, I’ll just be researching recipes for candy making. I think I will attempt to make chocolate over the spring break. Some people I know are going to say “Oh! Chocolate isn’t candy!” I will respect that opinion, but in this case it does count.

A problem I feel I will encounter is the chocolate melting at room temperature, so the chocolate will likely stay in the fridge.

I will soon make a video of me making chocolate soon. See you then.
